The Kappeler Institutes Worldwide
The Kappeler Institute for the Science of Being, USAPurpose and Mission of the KI USAThe KI USA's mission is to archive, publish, and promote Max Kappeler's English language writings and recordings. The activities of the KI USA are currently focused on publishing Kappeler's unpublished manuscripts, bringing Kappeler's work to a larger worldwide audience, and improving our outreach to new and longtime students. Our goal is to make sure that every student has the resource materials they need to study Science. The KI USA is a nonprofit, tax-exempt 501(c)3 corporation according to the code of the Internal Revenue Service of the United States. It was originally incorporated in Delaware in 1973; the corporate office moved to Seattle in 2005. It is designed for educational and research purposes. KI USA Position Statement on the Science of Christian ScienceThe Christian Science that Mary Baker Eddy discovered and stated in her Textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, is seen to be the universal Science of all sciences. The denominational aspect of Christian Science is fading away, and its vital role as a proto-science is emerging. Science cannot be organized and its investigation cannot be outlined or controlled humanly without endangering its unfoldment. Max Kappeler based his research entirely on the Bible and the teachings of Mary Baker Eddy as the complete revelation of Christian Science, as well as the teachings of John W. Doorly, who detected the scientific system of reference in the Christian Science textbook. The Kappeler Institute USA claims no exclusive rights to the "Science of Christian Science," nor does it present itself as an authority to endorse, control, or regulate work in the subject of Science. Max Kappeler founded the Kappeler Institute for the Science of Being, USA, in 1973 to maintain, protect, publish, promote, and archive his English language works. KI USA PoliciesAffiliations Please note, however, that the KI USA does offer a small number of books and recordings by other authors. These works are either owned and copyrighted by the KI USA (as with Denise Breton, Joel Jessen), or the KI USA has been given special permission to distribute materials (as with John W. Doorly). Copyrights
Copyrights of Others. It is the policy of Kappeler Institute for the Science of Being, USA, to respect the copyrights of other individuals and organizations. All books and recordings by other authors offered on this KI USA website are sold/distributed with permission of the copyright holder.
Credit Card Security In addition, the Kappeler Institute, USA, has opted not to use an automated, website based credit card processor. Instead:
Never fax or e-mail your credit card information! If you prefer to order books and recordings via e-mail or fax, send no payment information. We will send you an invoice. The most secure way to provide credit card data is via phone, mail, or the website shopping cart. *What is SSL? The Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol has become the universal standard on the Web for authenticating sites and for encrypting communications between users and Web servers. Because SSL is built into all major browsers and Web servers, simply installing a digital certificate or Server ID enables SSL capabilities. SSL server authentication allows users to confirm a Web server's identity. SSL-enabled client software, such as a Web browser, can automatically check that a server's certificate and public ID are valid and have been issued by a certificate authority (CA) such as VeriSign listed in the client software's list of trusted CAs. SSL server authentication is vital for secure e-commerce transactions. An encrypted SSL connection requires all information sent between a client and a server to be encrypted by the sending software and decrypted by the receiving software, protecting private information from interception over the Internet. In addition, all data sent over an encrypted SSL connection is protected with a mechanism for detecting tampering that is, for automatically determining whether the data has been altered in transit. This means that users can confidently send private data, such as credit card numbers, to a website, trusting that SSL keeps it private and confidential. Disclaimer Interpretation of Kappeler's Work. The Kappeler Institute for the Science of Being, USA, is not responsible for personal interpretations of Max Kappeler's works; neither for an individual's choices, statements, and actions based on their understanding of his work (for example, in regards to healing, practice, or teaching). In spiritual studies, states and stages of understanding evolve. Viewpoints change depending on the standpoint of the viewer. Endorsements The Kappeler Institute, USA, does not "endorse" other teachers or works, and since 1997, no other teacher has taught under the auspices of Kappeler Institute. The KI USA's mission is focused exclusively on promoting and maintaining Max Kappeler's English language works. KI USA always recommends that students study Kappeler's original work on the Science of Christian Science. Kappeler's timeless work on this subject is vital to a full understanding of the Science of Christian Science. We also recommend the works that Max Kappeler based his research work on, namely, the Bible and the books by Mary Baker Eddy and John W. Doorly. Other teachers of Science. As all teachers of Science are independent, they are free to teach their understanding of the subject, and are free to research and create their own work on the Science of Christian Science. A teacher's work stands alone as the product of that teacher, and must be judged on its own merits. A teacher can, in general, base their work in Science on Kappeler's work, but it will not be "the same as" or a "continuation of" Kappeler's work, as there is always the issue of personal interpretation. Max used to say in his summer school classes "Write this at the top of your paper: This is what I think Max said...." This is why we always recommend studying Kappeler's original work. Financial Hardship Program The Kappeler Institute, USA, has a "hardship" program for students of limited means. Materials are available at discounted prices. Please contact the KI USA office for more information, or to apply for this program. Gifts Upon your request, the Kappeler Institute, USA, will mail your "gift" of books, recordings, or Introductory Packets to individuals, along with a gift card informing the recipient that you ordered the materials for them. KI USA will not send materials anonymously. In the case of Introductory Packets, please make sure the recipient is interested in receiving the materials prior to making the request. The KI USA will limit the number of "gifts" that any one recipient receives without their direct contact with KI USA. We would ask that gift recipients eventually order directly from the KI USA and/or add their name to our mailing list. We want to assure that recipients are interested in Kappeler's work and getting the assistance they need in their study. Mailing List The Kappeler Institute, USA, endeavors to place only interested individuals on our mailing list. Your name will be placed on our mailing list under the following two conditions:
The Kappeler Institute does not sell or share its mailing list. Your name and/or address will not be given to anyone without your express written permission to do so (see
Privacy
below). Outside the USA: We use United States Postal Service (USPS). All foreign orders are shipped via airmail, unless you request otherwise. Airmail normally arrives within 4–7 days (although there are some countries where mailing times are much longer). Your order will be shipped using the least expensive "airmail" option, unless you request economy (which takes 4-6 weeks) or global priority (which takes 2-3 days). Please use the comment box, available during checkout, to communicate shipping preferences other than airmail. Shipping and Handling Fees. The KI USA policy is to charge actual shipping fees to customers. Shipping fees on your invoice should closely or exactly match the actual mailing cost. Handling fees are set at $2 per address to cover packaging and handling costs, but can be adjusted based on the shipping materials used ($1 for small envelopes, $2 for large envelope or box, $3-$4 for multiple large boxes). Fee Corrections. KI USA reserves the right to correct or adjust the shipping and handling fees. The shopping cart software on our website does not always calculate the shipping and handling fees correctly, nor can it anticipate the actual packaging materials needed. If the total on the invoice you receive online is incorrect, KI USA will contact you via e-mail with the actual costs prior to shipping your order. "The law of the self-evolution of God is the basis for our individual evolution in understanding and demonstration of the true man, the image and likeness of God. It shows how our understanding evolves spiritually and scientifically through the order of the 7 synonymous terms for God and the structure of the Textbook in order to achieve an understanding of the Science behind Christian Science" (see the Forward in this book).Because of this, KI USA encourages students to become their own practitioners through prayer and their study of Science. This encouragement it is not meant to discourage use of practitioners, friends, or other assistance. The "family law"—universal reflection of ideas (Christianity/Christian Science)—impacts the understanding and consciousness of students so that in their prayers they should be willing to follow this law and practice not only for themselves, but for every other idea (see A Study Aid for the Science of Christian Science, p. 55). Privacy Mailing List. The Kappeler Institute, USA, does not sell or share its mailing list. Your name and/or address will not be given to anyone without your express written permission to do so (for example, if you request that your name be added to the Study Partners List, your name and selected contact information will be available to others). Every effort is made to keep your personal contact information safe, secure, and private. We use Verisign (SSL Certificate) to keep the data our website secure, and do not store your credit card number on our website or in our office (see our Credit Card Security policy). Discreet Mail. You may request that KI USA mail your newsletters and orders to you without a return address showing on the outside envelope or package. To choose this option, provide a written request to the KI USA office to put you on the "discreet mail list." In addition, we ask that you note your "discreet" preference on all your orders. We cannot guarantee this process, but every effort will be made to mail discreet materials to your address every time. Study Partners KI USA maintains a confidential "Study Partners List" as a service to students. Individuals who are interested in finding a study partner are invited to add their name to this list. For the sake of privacy, the list is distributed only amongst those individuals on the list, and first names only are given. (Click on the link for more information on the Study Partners Program, pdf, 65 KB). Any use of the Study Partner List for purposes other than individual or group study constitutes misuse. Violators will be permanently removed from the Study Partners List and KI USA mailing list, and those on the Study Partner List will be informed. Trademarks Kappeler Trademarks.
